Okay. Let me explain. Marketers look at the product or service their company is selling, think of the value to their target market, and communicate that value proposition to the customer. I’ve been asking a lot of parents about their experiences with children. I saw an interesting card in a paper store. (A quaint little store in Shirlington, VA – if you were wondering) The card read — “Children will ruin your life.” I posted this picture and asked my friends if this was true. Most parents thought it was funny and while admitting to the difficulty associated with children, they all said the pros outweighed the cons. They talked about how children enhance and enrich your life and that they couldn’t see life without their children.
I think that to some degree, parents have to market parenting as a lifestyle. I doubt anyone would say — I have ‘em and DON’T DO IT!!!!

I’m rereading a wonderful (autographed copy) of Competing on Analytics. This is not a web metrics book. It’s more of the case for metrics. This excerpt from the foreward is exactly why companies should care.
“My journey is complicated by the fact that all organizations seek to please the leader, so there is constant pressure to give my otherwise lame and ill-considered views far more gravitas than they deserve. Beware, as this process can feel good and be dangerously addictive… Hence, it is critical to create and constantly cultivate an environment that views ideas as separable from people, insists on the use of rigorous evidence to distinguish among ideas, and includes a healthy dose of people both sufficiently dedicated and skillful to do the heavy lifting.

Well today I tried to access my flickr account. It didn’t just pop into my mind – like most things. I was working on a wordpress site for a musician and it had a flickr stream. I thought, oh wait… I have flickr. I went to my page. Nice, pictures from 2006 even!! This is cool. I should incorporate a flickr feed on my new blog design (whenever I get around to that)…
So I go to login. What is that login information? madia. Nope. Madiamusic. That should work. Nope. hmm… now I’m stumped. So I got to the help me page.
Try as they could, Yahoo just could not get me in. Oh yeah, it’s because I couldn’t remember my zip code – from like 3 years ago. Do you know how many places I’ve lived in 3 years? I’m like a nomad or a “gypsy” as my dad likes to call me.
It took some intense searching in my old, indexed email to find the answer. I felt like I’d found something incredible. One victory in a week when victory doesn’t seem so easy to claim.
As it turns out I am msmadialogan to Yahoo. With that 30 minutes of drama, I decided to check out this Open ID thing. I haven’t done my research yet, but I’m going to. http://openid.net/

Yes. To quote my big, somewhat confrontational sticker… “I’m a PC“. I have been a PC for a long time but friends are making me wonder whether or not I should jump ship, or at least have both in my computing arsenal. Since I have a brand new Lenovo laptop I cannot rationalize getting another beast computer untiiiiil I sell that laptop. But since the new Lenovo absolutely choked on Adobe Premiere, I’m not sure whether it makes sense to keep it.
In my quest to research Apple products I have gotten a iPod Touch. I didn’t purchase it. That would be high treachery (treason sounds trite). My brother Welton gave it to me and well… it was a gift. I’ve downloaded all kinds of apps, more than are available with my BlackBerry. sigh. In all fairness I do have what I need on the Blackberry. Twitter, Pandora, Sudoku and even Facebook so my needs are met but he pushed me to try it saying that if I was really into digital, I would check it out.
I’ll only admit this once. He was right.
So, should I add Apple to my arsenal? We’ll see.

Well I just did a round of logo design for the Phoebe A. Reeves Logan Foundation. It focuses on literacy in Liberia. Liberia has been devastated by a civil war lasting around 10 years.
With this design I started out looking at books and other graphics to incorporate but instead I went a very clean route. Helvetica is my friend as always even though some people hate when I use skinny fonts (inside joke).
I’m really excited about working on this project and not because Mrs. Logan happens to be my grandmother. My parents tell all my friends about how I started reading at three and I think my interest in reading was helpful in many ways. I began reading business books shortly after undergrad and in just the past couple weeks I’ve been devouring other topics from biographies to poetry to healthy eating — and it’s like my passion for reading is re-ignited. I still read The Economist. I’m still finishing Web Analytics 2.0 too. But I’m burning through some Bell Hooks and Cornel West too. Oooh I should write a post about those.
Unfortunately I’m delirious. Up waaaay too late on a day when I promised myself sleep. Darn you internet. Darn you kindle on my pc, kindle, and laptop. Darn you netflix. I could be sleeping but instead I’m torn between all my cool documentaries, books, and web projects.
Sigh… my life is great.
